Yunta

Ngadjuri Country
Established in 1887, Yunta once formed part of the Tattawappa and Yanta pastoral run. The discovery of gold at nearby Teetulpa and Waukaringa rapidly increased the local population to five thousand, but many moved on to Broken Hill for secure work at the mines and the number of people relying on the town plummeted.
From the 1930s, Yunta was home to outback mail contractor Harry Ding. Yunta is now the only service centre on the Barrier Highway between Peterborough and Broken Hill.
